My next "big" project idea

I took a graphic design class in high school and I learned how to silk screen. I was actually pretty good at it. I think I want to start doing it again. I can't afford the equipment for it yet, but I think that's something I'm really interested in.

Busy, Busy

I found some $5 paint at Home Depot as an oops paint. What turned out being an oops is it's almost the same color as what we just painted our room. :) Oh well.


As you can see, we still need to paint the trim and the closet. The toy box looks weird because we're going to be repainting it.


Captain's bed needs a guard rail, and this is the temporary bedspread, but we got the curtains up and the glider in there. :)

Cinnamon Sticks

Really wanted something sweet, so I took some breadsticks in a tube that I had on hand, melted butter and spread it on top. Then I sprinkled it with a cinnamon & sugar mixture, twisted it and baked it. Dipped in some homemade icing, it was really yummy. :)

Cancer Caps

My friend Emily had cancer and I made her a couple of these beanies.



They're real easy to make but time consuming. Leave me a comment if you want a tute on how to make them.

Titty Tent Tute, 2

OK, get ready for photo overload! Please note that this tutorial comes with a small amount of sewing knowledge assumed.

First you hem the sides and bottom

Then trim your extra piece of fabric to about 5 x 10

Hem the top of the pocket, set aside for later.

Now for the strap, fold in half and sew the side and the bottom, turn right side out. Set aside.

Now for the boning (boneing?)

Place the middle of the boning in the middle of the fabric, right along the unhemmed top, with the boning curving up (like it's smiling at you).

Roll fabric over boning until it curves up again.

Be sure to mark the ends of the boning.

Ok, now put the strap on, on the left side of the boning (with the wrong side of the fabric facing you), with the salvage facing the top at first-sew along the boning enclosed stitching.

Now fold the strap up and sew again.

Now for the Velcro. Turn the fabric so that the right side is facing you. Pin the "hook" part on the left side of the boning, so that the edge of the Velcro is at the edge of the boning (opposite side of the strap). Sew on.

Now put the "loop" part on the strap, about an inch from the bottom.

So this is how it will attach.

Now for the pocket, put the bottom of the pocket about 6 1/2" from the top of the cover, so the middle of the pocket is also in the middle of the boning.

Sew until you have about this much left on both sides.

Fold the sides over, and then fold the whole pocket up. Sew along the sides.

Then sew a line down the middle, so that you have two pockets (I use them for my breastpads) 

This is what the pocket looks like from the inside.

That's it! You're done! :) Did you survive? My toddler barely did, apparently.

Sunflower shawl

Made this shawl for my friend Kendy. Took me a  little while to come up with a pattern for it, but I think it turned out alright.

Titty Tent Tutorial

Just to show how far behind I am with my projects, I am just now getting started on the nursing covers (aka Titty Tents) for my friends. They're going to be done nursing by the time I get them out to them! So, I thought I'd explain how to make them. It takes about an hour and a half to make one, so let's get started!

First, collect your materials. A yard of fabric (Most people make them out of a flannel type material but I think that's too hot in the summer!), a half yard of boneing (I like the covered kind), 3 inches of Velcro (I got the cheap one from JoAnn. A yard for a dollar and it comes in fun colors), and thread to match.

Cut 2 inches off the ends (Not the salvages, but the end opposite of the fold) all the way across. Throw the small piece away.

Cut the fabric into two parts, the small piece being only 6 inches wide.

So you'd have two pieces.



Take the small piece and unfold it. Cut that into two pieces, one being 28 inches long. This will be the part that goes on your neck to hold the whole thing up. The small piece left over will be used later.  Ok, next we'll start sewing. I'll post that a little later. I have to wait until someone is watching my not-quite-2-year-old who has to always be part of Mommy's business. :)

Mother's Day...oops!

Busy

Sorry, I haven't been doing projects lately. I've been busy reading. :)

Hooter hider fabric

Melissa and Esther wanted me to make them hooter hiders (or titty tents). I picked a blue/green tie dye for Mel Mel and blue and brown spots for Esther. What do you think?

Headband with flower

Here's the headband with a flower instead of the button.

Idea for cabinets

I'm thinking of this kind of a glaze for the cabinets in Dawn's kitchen. The color is going to be more of a yellow, but I'm thinking of a kind of brown for the glaze to make the flowers on the doors pop.

How to make your own headband

I thought I'd share my "pattern" for headbands. Easiest thing ever, I can make one in under an hour. :)
1-Chain 81, turn.
2-(Starting in 2nd chain from hook) Single crochet across, chain 1, turn
3-Single crochet 25, half double crochet until last 25, single crochet 25, chain 1, turn
4-Single crochet 25, double crochet until the last 25, single crochet 25, chain 1, turn
5-Single crochet 25, tripple crochet until last 25, single crochet 22, chain 3, skip 2, single crochet last single crochet (for the button hole), chain 1, turn
6-Single crochet 25, double crochet until last 25, single crochet, chain 1, turn
7-Single crochet 25, half double crochet until last 25, single crochet 25, chain 1, turn
8-Single crochet across, fasten off.
9-Sew button (on end without button hole) wherever it fits your head best.
Can add a flower, or a button, or use with flower clips.
I'll add pictures later, my kid won't let me take pictures at the moment. :)

Headbands

I made up a pattern for a headband. Jenn was my willing model.



I saw this big orange button and instantly thought of her.

Sunken Pool

We painted our room, the color is called "Sunken Pool". I really like it.

And, yesterday, we took the popcorn off Cali's ceiling.

Unpopcorn

First thing we've done is taking the popcorn off the ceiling in our room:

The walls are still painted pink-but not for long!

Cali's ceiling still has popcorn on it. But it's so easy to remove, all you need is a squirt bottle of water and a metal putty knife!

Crochet Purse

My cousin-in-law Kendy had a purse that was falling apart, so I made her this one to replace it. I saw the yarn and it just totally fit her style. :)

Beads

First time playing around with beads. As you can see, I need some more practice. :)

New adventures in an old house

I guess here is as good a place as any to announce that we're going to be moving in with my mother-in-law, Dawn, in August. In liu of rent, however, we are going to be fixing up her home. That means that all the fun DIY projects we've been doing at my parents house are going to be done here.
The big items on the list (I call them "The Big Four") are: repiping, new carpet, tile, and new windows. Other projects include redoing the room Sean and I will be in and the room Cali will be in. Those are the rooms we're starting with, so they will be done when it's time to move in.
So, I will be posting picture of before, during, and after shots for your enjoyment. Don't worry, I will be crafting and putting up those projects up as well. :)

Wall Decor

I saw something similar to this at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Only their's said things like, "Live, laugh, love" etc. And I thought it would be cool to put President Hinckley's Be's on it there. My sister Ashley is getting this one, so she picked out the colors.

Blessing dress

Not quite completed, added lace around bodice. I was making this for my friend Amber's baby, Laila. But, she didn't end up using it. Modified Simplicity pattern.

Owl

When I was up in Utah in January, Cali and I got to visit my bestie Marianne. In her apartment, she had this super cute shower curtain and I fell in love with the owls on it. So I thought I'd make her this little guy to put up on her bathroom wall.

Personalized clothing

These started out as plain puple pants. But, after an unfortunate bleaching incident, I decided to add stuff to it to make it look like it was done on purpose.

I wanted to make our own wedding scrapbook as a guest book out of some of the unused engagement photos. Our wedding photographer took this picture.
